Second Harvest Food Bank Drive

When Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania announced they were observing Hunger Action Month in September, the Maleno Property Management team immediately hopped on board. Hunger Action Month is a time for people all over America to stand together with the nationwide network of food banks to fight hunger. It’s a month to spread the word and take action on the hunger crisis, and dedicate ourselves to a solution.

We were shocked to learn that 91,000 people, in our own corner of northwest Pennsylvania, are facing food insecurities.  Nationwide, the number rises to 49 million individuals.  With these kind of numbers, the team realized it would take more than just our individual donations. A call went out to residents within our 513 apartment rental homes, as well as to homeowners living in the 75 patio-style condominiums at South Pointe, a homeowner's association managed by Maleno.  In addition to collecting food and grocery items in a collection bin at the Property Management office, Maleno has created a fundraising page for dollar donations.

Consider ways you can donate such as:

  • Host a Food Bank Donation Party - a great way to beat the end-of-summer blues is to invite family and friends over for a party!  Make a theme focusing on hunger.  When you invite your guests to your house, tell them to bring a few nonperishable food items.  You could even send them the list of needed items from Second Harvest.
  • Send an email to all your friends, with a link to our fundraising page, asking them to donate as little as $5 or as much as they can afford. It only takes a minute!
  • Volunteer - research has shown that volunteering is very beneficial to the volunteer.  A recent HelpGuide article listed benefits to volunteering such as: connecting you to others, being good for your mind and body, advancing your career, and bringing fun and fulfillment to your life.
  • Wear orange for Hunger Action Day on September 12th and post a picture to Second Harvest's Facebook page.

Or, simply donate through our fundraising page or bring food and hygiene items to our Property Management offices located at 2315 Jamestown Dr and 5355 Rome Dr, Erie, PA.

Working together, we know Erie County residents can make a difference for those 91,000 individuals who need help within our community.
