Casa Bonita - Fairmont Parkway

Casa Bonita. That’s the name Athari Durr has given to her home. It means “pretty house” and the name fits it to a T. This charming one and a half story home has many unique features like a brick wall in the living room, arched doorways, and sloped ceilings in the upstairs bedroom. Athari shopped at consignment and second-hand stores, like Cobb's Thrift Store, to decorate this casa with her eclectic style. Unfortunately, the home has fallen into disrepair and needs help.

A senior citizen, Athari was laid off from her job at Verizon where she worked for 16 years. She is visually disabled and on her own as her children live out of town. Lacking a railing, Athari has fallen down her stairs on more than one occasion. Outlets no longer work, kitchen cabinets don’t open and close smoothly, there’s water damage from a leaking toilet, and the basement walls are showing water damage, among other trivial things. There’s no splashy remodel needed here. Just the small, pesky handy-man projects that are too much for Althari to handle, but which will make an enormous difference in her world.

"We don't want the 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' build to be our first and last charitable project; we are committed to giving back on an ongoing basis."
