Maleno Awarded 2017 AFP Philanthropic Organization Award

Each year, the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) selects outstanding individuals and organizations from our region to receive National Philanthropy Day Awards.  This year, Maleno was selected as the Outstanding Philanthropic Organization of the year.  Maleno has been building homes locally for over 40 years.  They actively seek out opportunities to give back to the Erie community and established the Maleno Family to Family Fund as a vehicle to do so.  Maleno has a long and exemplary track record of supporting philanthropic causes, both through the fund and through personal efforts.

Most recently, the Maleno family completed the construction of the $100,000+ Maleno Adventure Woods at the Erie Zoo, a much-needed play area for the Erie Zoo.  While this may be their most visible act of philanthropy in recent years, it is certainly not their first.  Maleno has been active in the philanthropic community for four decades, including the high-profile 2009 construction of the Extreme Makeover, Home Edition for Clara Ward's youth development center.  They have completed an addition on the Waterford home of an air force veteran, installed a wheelchair ramp for an Erie woman badly injured in a motorcycle accident, remodeled a second floor for a family of seven, allowing their five children to have bedrooms, and renovated the home of an Erie woman who has fostered more than 82 children in the past 25 years.  These are just a few examples of the difference Maleno has made.

Over the years, philanthropy has become as much a part of the Maleno mission as providing premium homes, expert knowledge and advice, exceptional and caring service, and making a difference within the community.

Other award recipients:  Dave & Evelyn Seyboldt--Outstanding Philanthropists, Don McCain--Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser, and Erie County Technical School--Outstanding Young Philanthropist.
